Muse Digital: Courage amidst uncertainty

Pandemic schmandemic!

What a year 2020 has been, and we’re not even halfway through! While some of us are wishing we could go back to 2019, for me, that’s just not an option. Venturing out on my own and starting a business has been in the works for a long time now, and I can’t let the COVID-19 outbreak stand in my way. Impeccable timing – yes. But going back? No.

This marks the start of a new chapter for me, and maybe one of the boldest moves I’ve ever made. I’m sure every entrepreneur felt the same when starting out. Excited, proud, uncertain, anxious – a myriad of emotions.

A passion reborn

Those who I’ve had the pleasure of working with, know that I love what I do. My passion has always been, and will continue to be, helping people within the design and tech space – clients and candidates alike. I’ve spent over nine years perfecting my craft and strengthening relationships to lay strong foundations for success.

Now, Muse Digital is where I can have my own creative direction and be 100% myself, while still living out that passion every day. I always knew it would happen one day but before now, I’ve never quite had the confidence to go it alone.

Finding confidence as a female in business

For years, I’ve had friends, family, clients and candidates telling me, “You should start your own business, it would be so successful,” and the like. They saw something and believed in me, but it’s been a long journey believing in myself and getting where I am today.

But where did that irrational self-deprecating lack of confidence come from in the first place? According to a study by the Boston Consulting Group, they found an “Entrepreneurial Gender Gap” where men were 4.4% more likely to start a business, and closing this gap would boost the economy by $5 trillion.

Career and confidence coach, Kate Richardson, goes on to explain that women are less willing to take risks than men and would rather take a carefully calculated approach, leaving it until they’re absolutely sure it’s going to work. So, I guess you could say that’s exactly where I’m standing today.

I’m not saying male entrepreneurs never lack self-confidence, but specifically for women, I can relate and the stats certainly speak for themselves.

Family first

It always seemed that the easiest and most secure path was to work for someone else, especially while having my babies. I’m now a proud mum to my little girl Jasmine who’s three and a half, and Jordan who’s eight months old. They keep me on toes for sure! I’ve always sworn that two is my number, so after I had Jordan, I finally ran out of excuses. I had to take a chance and give it my all.

So, here we are! Muse Digital. A fresh new start, but I thought it only right to honour the journey so far. It’s time to let go of doubt and embrace new possibilities; I’m so excited to share it with you.

I have an ambitious vision of building a meaningful community here. Connecting people and supporting each other is how we can add value and build something much greater than ourselves – which is why I do what I do.
